چکیده

Polydicyclopentadiene (pDCPD), a thermoset with excellent mechanical properties, has enormous potential as lightweight, tough, and stable matrix material owing to its highly cross-linked macromolecular network. This work describes generating pDCPD-based foams hierarchically porous carbons derived therefrom by combining ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of DCPD, high internal phase emulsions (HIPEs) structural templates, subsequent carbonization. The structure function the carbon were characterized discussed in detail using scanning electron, transmission or atomic force microscopy (SEM, TEM, AFM), electron energy-loss spectroscopy (TEM-EELS), N2 sorption, analyses electrical conductivity well properties. resulting materials exhibited uniform, shape-retaining shrinkage only ?1/3 after No failure was observed even when pDCPD precursor heated 1400 °C. Instead, porosity, void size, 3D interconnectivity fully preserved, diameters could be adjusted between 87 2.5 ?m. Moreover, have content >97%, an electronic up 2800 S·m–1, Young’s modulus 2.1 GPa, specific surface area 1200 m2·g–1. Surprisingly, carbonized into shapes other than monoliths, such 10’s micron thick membranes foamy coatings adhered metal foil grid substrate. latter adhere upon bending. Alcohol-promoted ring-opening alkyne metathesis polymerization.

Alcohol is the answer! An inactive, air-stable, dimeric molybdenum alkylidyne complex is activated toward ring-opening alkyne metathesis polymerization (ROAMP) by the addition of methanol. The ROAMP is compatible with water and phenol-containing substrates and with the in situ photochemical generation of alkyne monomers from cyclopropenones.

Catalytic living ring-opening metathesis polymerization.

In living ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP), a transition-metal-carbene complex polymerizes ring-strained olefins with very good control of the molecular weight of the resulting polymers. Because one molecule of the initiator is required for each polymer chain, however, this type of polymerization is expensive for widespread use. We have now designed a chain-transfer agent (CTA) cap...

Surface-initiated ring-opening metathesis polymerization of 5-(perfluorohexyl)norbornene on carbon paper electrodes.

Hydrophobic coatings on carbon paper electrodes are known to provide effective water management, superior gas transfer, and improved mechanical stability of the paper in fuel cell applications. Here, we describe the surface-initiated ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of 5-(perfluorohexyl)norbornene (NBF6) to prepare fluorocarbon-rich films on carbon paper substrates that were pre-tr...

Two-Dimensional Controlled Syntheses of Polypeptide Molecular Brushes via N-Carboxyanhydride Ring-Opening Polymerization and Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization

Well-defined molecular brushes bearing polypeptides as side chains were prepared by a "grafting through" synthetic strategy with two-dimensional control over the brush molecular architectures. By integrating N-carboxyanhydride ring-opening polymerizations (NCA ROPs) and ring-opening metathesis polymerizations (ROMPs), desirable segment lengths of polypeptide side chains and polynorbornene brush...

Supported Catalysts Useful in Ring-Closing Metathesis, Cross Metathesis, and Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization

Ruthenium and molybdenum catalysts are widely used in synthesis of both small molecules and macromolecules. While major developments have led to new increasingly active catalysts that have high functional group compatibility and stereoselectivity, catalyst/product separation, catalyst recycling, and/or catalyst residue/product separation remain an issue in some applications of these catalysts. ...
